Medical Technology & AI Engineering · Grades 6–12
Middle and high school students join University Medical Center as junior engineers, building real AI tools alongside a large language model named MAX. Twelve course days, twelve labs, and two lectures from a licensed physician.
No prior coding experience is required. Every concept arrives attached to something a hospital actually needs, so students leave with both an understanding of how language models work and a portfolio of tools they built themselves.
MAX is the hospital's large language model. Students learn to prompt it, extend it, test it, and catch it when it is wrong.
Two lectures from a licensed medical doctor ground the engineering in anatomy and real medical technology.
The course ends with each team presenting a working tool to the staff of University Medical Center.
The placement
University Medical Center is a virtual AI-driven university hospital built for this course. From day one, students are team members with a department, a caseload of engineering problems, and colleagues who depend on their work.

Medical lectures
Dr. Fauzia Abassi leads two lectures inside the course: one on the medical technology used in a modern hospital, and one on the anatomy an engineer needs to understand before building anything that touches a patient.
Faculty
Instructor. Former NASA engineer and defense contractor; teaches the course days and runs every lab.
Licensed medical doctor. Leads the two medical lectures on medical technology and anatomy.
